Sunstar Group, which owns 16 Costcutter stores in London, is taking part in the Government’s Change4Life movement to promote healthy eating.
All of the participating stores will sell a wider range of fruit and vegetables and prominently display the produce using Change4Life branding.
Past Mayor of Southwark Cllr Eliza Mann joined pupils, parents and staff from Charles Dickens Primary School at the Southwark Bridge Road.
She presented certificates to the winners of the school’s fruit mobile competition. Pupils had made vehicles and flying machines from fruit, which were then put to the test on a ramp or zip wire.
The school’s choir also sang their Eco Code song and “Hey, hey, that’s five a day”.
Costcutter on Homerton High Street, which is part of the Thothaal Group, has teamed up with local Berger Primary School to encourage local children to eat more fresh fruit and vegetable. This follows on from their successful launch of Change4Life branding on a wider range of fresh fruit and vegetables earlier in the year. Costcutter Operations Manager Syed Israt Husain, said: We are proud to have been the first Costcutter stores in London to open over 22 years ago and believe in building strong links with our local schools. This is evidence of our continued partnership with Berger Primary and we are delighted with the event.”
